It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing on Saturday 15th August of our great friend and HRFC rugby man, Brian Hunter.

Brian has been at the club for over 40 years and has worked quietly in the background for nearly all of this time in a variety of important roles.

He was recently made an Honorary Life Member for his good service.

He came to Havant with a wealth of rugby knowledge having enjoyed a stellar playing career in a Moseley team littered with full England internationals, and continued his playing career with us for a few seasons before he suffered a stroke that stopped his playing days at the beginning of the 1980s.

His passion for the game was clear to see as he then supported his sons from Minis through to Colts where he became Manager for a few years of what became a legendary Colts set up at the end of the 1980s.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Brian instigated the setting up of the HRFC Former Players Association and became its Secretary, a role he performed continuously and tirelessly ever since.

It involved the organising of several lunches each season together with what has become a major annual feature of the the club's social calendar, the FPA Sportsman's Dinner.

He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him at HRFC and in wider rugby circles, and our thoughts are with his wife Helen and his family.

Brian's funeral will be held at the Oaks Crematorium on Bartons Road, West Leigh, Havant, Wednesday, 26 August at 3.15.

This will be followed by a 'wake' at the Langstone Hotel on Hayling.

Brian's wife Helen and the family would love for all of Brian's friends at the Rugby Club, or anyone who knew Brian, to attend.
